Marketing Sin #1

Marketing is a Magic Wand

Marketing is not magic, just because you have an ad out there doesn’t mean it’s going to bring in floods of cash, generate tons of leads and everything else. The truth is, most people struggle to get results with their marketing because its simply not seen by enough eyeballs in order to get a decent response.

Depending on what type of media you use, the response rate will be very different. Magazine ads will give you a different number than Facebook ads and Facebook ads will give you a different number than pop up ads. All in all you have to let it run, get seen and see what happens. It’s a numbers game!

Marketing Sin #2

Choosing and Using Only 1 Type of Media

When you’re starting out, this is fine. Get a few ads up and running on a platform and then start to expand. When the “Google Slap” happened in 2008 through 2009 many businesses went under because they were only relying on Google adwords to bring in their traffic. What if the prices change for  where you’re marketing, what if the website you’re using to market on goes under or is bought out and everything changes? It’s proven to happen time and time again and if you don’t expect it to happen to you and it does… you’ll be struggling to recover instead of growing your business.

Poor Follow-up

Following up with leads and prospects is by far the most important thing you can do in your marketing. If you’ve already spent the money to generate the lead, why not spend a little extra to get them to buy. Heck some of my best customers and clients followed me for a year or two before they bought anything from me! The fact of the matter is, if you don’t follow up, your business will struggle to make money, all the money is made in the follow up!
